Wings of Freedom Tour Brought History to KPWT

Four of the most famous WWII bomber and fighter aircraft made a stop at the Bremerton National Airport.

The event featured a pop-up museum and military vehicles on display. The Collings Foundation provided a great opportunity to see up-close these remarkable thanks to the Collings Foundation Wings of Freedom Tour.

U.S. veterans and former POWs, Robert W. Meyer and Kenneth E. Jensen spent time with Port staff during the event and shared their heroic tales of their experiences. Mr. Jensen was a Ball Turret Gunner in the belly of a B-17 during WWII - one of the aircraft on display at the event. He was captured by German forces in Nuremberg in 1944. Mr. Meyer fought in the Battle of Bulge and was captured by German forces in Luxembourg on December 18, 1944.It was an honor for visitors to the event to get to interact with these men and hear their stories.
