**Harper Pier is currently CLOSED for reconstruction**
*Deconstruction Update: Deconstruction of the Harper Pier is now complete.
A Public Hearing on the Shoreline Substantial Development Permit (SDAP)/Shoreline Variance was held on September 26, 2013. The permit was uncontested with Port CEO Tim Thomson speaking on behalf of the Board of Commissioners in favor of the project. The hearing examiner will make a determination in about 10 days with a positive finding expected.
The Harper Recreational Pier is a community and regional recreational asset which is operated and maintained by the Port of Bremerton as provided for in a lease from the owner of the tidelands and pier, Washington State Department of Natural Resources. The wood construction Harper Pier is a legacy facility dating back to local ferry operations and the effects of time, weather and the hostile marine environment have taken a toll on the structure.
Community meetings have been held regarding the current condition of the pier and discussion and input on options for future uses of the pier.
